Strikeforce’s champion, Cristiane Cyborg put her belt at risk for the second time last night, and the American Jan Finney was not enough even for the start. Dominating the trade of punches, Cris got a knockout on the second round and keeps herself on the top of the world. Yet in California, the Brazilian talked to TATAME about the knockout, her next challenges and Fabrício Werdum’s win, her training partner on Chute Boxe, over Fedor Emelianenko.
What did you think of your fight? It was like you expected it to be?
I liked the fight very much, it was great. I always go for the win and I did everything the way I wanted to and I got off there with a win on my hands. In fact, I thought she would want to bring me to the ground, but I was well prepared on the ground, standing… I was very confident for everything.
Were you surprised she lasted so long after so many punches?
In fact, I thought they should have stopped the fight earlier, but she handle it well, she was fine.
How do you see your division now? Who do you believe you will have to confront now?
I’ll keep training, I’ll be ready to fight against whoever the president tells me to. I’m ready for any fight on this division, I’ll be ready.
Now you and Cyborg’s diet is over. Is it a time for a rest?
Now we have to celebrate a little our wins and then keep training.
What did you think of the fight between Werdum and Fedor?
I always train with Werdum, he trained a lot for this fight, and he was very well prepared and determinate. I could hear people booing at him when he entered and I remind of my fight against Gina (Carano) when everybody booed me, because Fedor was there as the favorite and so was she, but I saw he could win, that it was his chance and he did a great job and Brazil got these two wins.
Did you expect that the fight lasted only 69 seconds?
I didn’t expect that it ended that quickly, but I knew he was there to submit... He wouldn’t miss an opportunity of submission, he trained for that.
Was it a perfect month for Chute Boxe on Strikeforce, wasn’t it?
Yeah, it was a perfect month on which everybody won.
