MONTREAL - No one is invincible: That is the belief that Mauricio "Shogun" Rua took him to the Octagon Saturday night at UFC 113 for a rematch against the heavyweight champion Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida.
But Rua would be based on more than a mere belief as he prepared to correct an error that took place seven months ago in Los Angeles, also owned the key to beat Machida.
After their first fight, Rua discovered a weakness in the once impenetrable armor of Machida. Although enteriormente had fallen short, losing by unanimous decision, Rua knew he would prevail on this occasion.
Rua found that Machida was vulnerable to right hands on their way from the defensive to the offensive.
"In my first fight with Machida, I tried to make the kicks a lot, and I realized that every time he tried to attack ... he was attacking, but not with his hands in the right place - with her face uncovered," Rua told ESPN.com during the press conference after the fight. "That's why I worked on this occasion, not only in the kicks, but in the right hands."
Rua wasted no time trying to exploit the hole in the game of Machida. Machida immediately attacked with kicks. Then he began to give blows to right and left, several of which could land.
The more punches thrown, closer to establishing Machida Rua's chin. Finally, a right found its mark.
Rua Machida was shot down and made sure not to stand again.
"When I connected to the right, I realized that I was about to win," said Rua, who improved to 19-4-0. "I took the opportunity to continue hitting him on the ground until the referee [Yves Lavigne] stopped the fight.
"I stopped hitting before the referee stopped the fight. When we see the opportunity, we will kill, because sometimes in a fight just a chance."
The first fight was tight, with Machida winning by 48-47 in the three official cards. While Machida claimed a unanimous decision, many observers disagreed with the judges scores.
Rua was among the dissidents and promised to give judges a free night in a rematch. It took just three minutes, 35 seconds to send everyone home early from Bell Centre.
Machida (16-1-0) had its moments, Rua knocked twice. On each occasion, however, Rua returned to his feet quickly.
Despite these brief moments when he seemed to be in control, Machida was never considered as a serious threat to Rua.
Most of this short fight was dominated by Rua, and won convincingly.
"I do not know what words to use to explain what it means to beat a guy like Machida in the way it did in the first round," said UFC president Dana White. "It was awesome."
White declined to say who would be the likely next opponent for the new champion. It seems to be keeping all options open, even the possibility of a rematch between Rua and Machida can not be ruled out.
The winner of the fight between Quinton Jackson and Rashad Evans is the favorite for now. The war of words will inciepiente Answers on May 29 in Las Vegas.
"I do not know," said White. "This fight [Machida, Rua II] was a great fight, amazing. Rúa was invincible." "Now we have to see what happens in this fight [Jackson-Evans]."
A wrestler will not get the first shot at the middleweight title Rua Anderson Silva. White is still thinking of the infamous exit champion against Demian Maia 185 pounds in April.
Whot does not rule out a possible battle between Rua and Silva in the not too distant future, but Smith prefers to clean the first middleweight division. That is something that Silva could achieve within his next two fights.
Silva could find its way to the rankings of the light heavyweight category, if they beat Chael Sonnen - who faces on 7 August in Oakland, California - and Vitor Belfort.
"Anderson Silva will fight against Chael Sonnen and probably then against Vitor Belfort, then move up," said White. "I like to see guys clean your division first." "I'm still unhappy with Anderson. I want to see Anderson perform in his next fight. "The way he fought Shogun tonight is the way in which the best fighters in the world should fight. That's what people are paying to see. When you buy your ticket, that is what you pay to see."
It happened because he entered the cage Rua believe there are no fighter who is invincible, not even the former light heavyweight champion heavy.
