Roy Nelson (15-4 MMA, 2-0 UFC) at the end will not fight with Cheick Kongo, after all. Kongo (06.01.1915 MMA, 8-4 UFC) has withdrawn from a meeting with Nelson to negotiate a UFC116 combat due to a back injury, according to several reports. Instead, the UFC has a surprising replacement: Junior Dos Santos (11-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC)
MMAjunkie.com According to sources close to the case at least one fighter has accepted the competition, now in the process of the main card of UFC 117, with the intention of signing an agreement to combat.
UFC 117 will be held on 7 August at the EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City. A title fight between middleweight champion Anderson Silva and challenger Chael Sonnen would be the star of the night battle.
Nelson, 33, garnered his second consecutive win with an octagon at UFC against Stefan Struve on Versus on March 1. The winner of "The Ultimate Fighter 10" surprised most Struve leaving KO in just 33 seconds.
Previously, Nelson finished his bout with a knockout in the first round of Brendan Schaub at the end of "TUF10. The UFC president Dana White, criticized his tactical approach to his fights in the program, and despite some initial criticism, Dana now considers him a good part of the UFC family.
Dos Santos for 25 years fought alongside Nelson at "UFC Versus a" getting his fifth consecutive victory when he knocked out former contender Gabriel Gonzaga in less than four minutes. The victory put him in the top of HW to many observers, considering it "as a serious contender in the division, which could make the fight with Nelson even more fundamental."
The only man who endured a first round with Dos Santos was the former PRIDE champion Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, who retired from fighting in the 3rd round after being severely punished the two. Dos Santos also knocked in the first round to Struve, which took place at UFC 95 last February.
