One of the great MMA international Brazilian names, Rogério Minotauro wore bigger gloves and became South American boxing champion, besides winning a hard bronze medal on the Pan Am of 2007. Three years later, other MMA’s name has been calling attention for the sharp exchange of punches.
Pupil of Carlos Dórea, also Minotauro’s boxing trainer, Junior Cigano beat all of his UFC’s opponents, including top strikers as Mirko Cro Cop and Gilbert Yvel. Very proud, the trainer reveals that the heavyweight may appear on the boxing ring in a close future. “The main skill of Cigano is his boxing and he gets better each day. His thought about fighting boxing do exist, is also his wish”, tells Dórea, revealing that the debut was scheduled for the beginning of the year.
“The first step would be the Brazilian championship, after he beat Cro Cop. He was the super heavy holder of the Bahia’s team, but UFC scheduled his fight with Gilbert Yvel, so I had to take him off the team”, explains Dórea, confident that the UFC’s athlete talent could bring Olympic medals to Brazil. “His evolving is fantastic, he has one of the best boxing techniques of international MMA. If everything goes right, he will compete on this area and, who knows, in the future he can bring a few medals to Brazil… He is phenomenon”, compliments.
Despite the fact you can not test yourself on a boxing rind, the Champion’s gim trainings, on Bahia, shows Cigano as a good promise on the sport. “He participated of all the team preparation for the Pan Am, Pre-Olympic… He trained yesterday and had an outstanding performance with two two-times Brazilian champions, guys who had traveled around the world”, reveals the coach, seeing his pupil as a “salvation” for the most valued division. “Brazil always lacked heavyweight fighters, and with Cigano’s strength and skills, I don’t have a doubt he would represent Brazil very well on the tournaments, and would even bring medals home”, bets.
